An 18-year-old driver was freed from the vehicle she was briefly trapped in Friday morning in an accident on Iowa Highway 44 east of J Avenue.

An 18-year-old girl was briefly trapped about 8 a.m. Friday when the Chevrolet truck she was driving left the roadway of Iowa Highway 44 just east of J Avenue and came to rest in the ditch.

The driver was transported by Dallas County EMS to Mercy Main Hospital with unknown injuries.

Extrication equipment was summoned, but emergency responders were able to open the door of the vehicle before the equipment became necessary.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s office, Adel Fire Department and Adel First Responders also responded to the incident. Redfield Fire and Rescue was dispatched for mutual aid.

The cause of the one-vehicle mishap is under investigation at this hour. Decorations on the window of the vehicle suggest the driver is a high school senior.
