The PACES Summer Program hosted a bike rodeo this morning at the Perry Elementary School, with about 15 young riders taking lessons in safety from Perry Police Detective Sgt. Jerome Hill.
After watching a short video on bicycle safety, the young riders took to the track for some real-world applications in pre-ride check lists and obstacle navigation.
The young participants were Reagan Baldwin, Aaron Calderon, Jacobo Cerna-Gomez, Leobardo Delgadillo Ayala, Lillian Dong, Alexis Enriquez, Ayden Erickson, Alejandra Hernandez, Carlos Monzon, Karina Perez, Josue Ramirez, Yilliam Rivera Martinez and Cameron Spence.
Assisting Hill in the lessons were PACES instructors Liz Elliott, Alison Tobar and Lurdes Ledesma, all of Perry.
PACES stands for Perry Academic Cultural and Enrichment Services and is a before- and after-school program for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. The summer programming is as popular and in demand as the school-year activities, according to Mary Hillman, longtime director of the successful program.
