Seventeen kindergarten-age PACES students and four adult PACES supervisors -- including longtime Foster Grandparent Dorothea Peterson -- visited the Perry Public Library Thursday morning but not for the first time.

Kindergarten-age students in the summer PACES program at Perry Elementary School visited the Perry Public Library Thursday morning and not for the first time.

“This is our third visit,” said one student.

“No, it’s our second,” said a second.

“Actually, it our fifth trip to the library,” said another confident kindergartener.

If the 17 PACES students differed among themselves, the four adult PACES supervisors — including longtime Foster Grandparent Dorothea Peterson — were no better prepared to solve the mystery of the library visits. Thus the reader must dwell in uncertain knowledge at best.

PACES stands for the Perry Academic Cultural and Enrichment Services. Now in its 18th year in the Perry school system under the direction of Mary Hillman, PACES has served more than 10,000 students and offered more than 200 programs in its before- and after-school services.
