PACES students from pre-kindergarten though second grade waited patiently to join the Homecoming parade at Eighth Street and Willis Avenue Sept. 28.

Each October PACES holds their annual “Lights On After School” celebration. In conjunction with the celebration a “Pledges for PACES” walk at Kaufman Track will be held Oct. 19 from 4-5:30 p.m.

Students will be walking as many laps as they can to help raise funds for the program. Parents, guardians and friends of PACES are asked to pledge a certain amount per lap, with the number of laps completed tallied and donations totals set. One-time donations not tied to the lap totals will also be happily accepted.

On Oct. 20 a celebration of the annual “Lights On” drive will be held, from 5-6 p.m. at the Perry Elementary School cafeteria. The yearly program will feature guest speakers, a talent show performed by PACES students and the distributing of awards for the “Lights On” coloring, poster and essay contests.

A free meal will be served after the celebration, with parents, students, teachers and community friends welcome.

PACES, or Perry Academic Cultural and Enrichment Services, is currently in its 17th year. Since 2000 PACES has served over 10,000 and offered over 200 programs. Donations can be mailed to, or delivered to, PACES at the Perry Elementary School, 1600 8th St. attn: Lights On.
