URBANDALE — Class 2A No. 7 Panorama escaped with a 45-42 West Central Conference victory over host Des Moines Christian Tuesday, but not before the Lions roared back from an 11-point deficit to draw within a possession of tying the game.

The Panthers (2-0, 1-0) trailed by a point after the first eight minutes of play, but used a 16-5 scoring edge in a decisive second quarter to enter the intermission with a 29-19 edge. Panorama led, 38-27, entering the final frame, but the hosts managed to claw back into the contest with a late surge before the Panthers eventually nailed down the victory.

Bailey Beckman led Panorama with 13 points, with Devyn Kemble scoring 12 points and Morgan Johnk nine. Six points from Faith Powell, four from Nicole Rolfes and a free throw from Hope Wilderman completed the scoring list.

Johnk cleared 10 rebounds, Kemble six and Powell five, with Rolfes and Wilderman grabbing four boards apiece. Beckman had three steals and Kemble three assists to aid the winning cause.

Panorama won despite shooting only 14-of-44 (32 percent) from the field, a clip that includes connecting on just 3-of-20 attempted 3-pointers.

The Panthers return to action tonight in a girls/boy set at WCV starting at 6 p.m. Both Panorama teams will take to the court Saturday when they host IKM-Manning, with the first game at 1 p.m.
