MINNEAPOLIS — The University of Minnesota Aquatic Center will serve as host for the Midwest Regional Swim Meet March 25-26. Traveling to the Twin Cities to display their talents will be nine members of the Perry Area Winter Swim (PAWS) team.
Two boys — brothers Riese (age 13) and Devon (18) Archer — will be in action for Perry. Devon will compete in the 15-18 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. He will also swim in the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay, while Riese will swim in the 14U 400 free relay and 200 free relay.
PAWS is joined by swimmers from Denison and Clarinda to create relay teams for the regional meet, competing as the “Blue Fins.”
Three 10-year old girls will be in action in the 9-10 division for PAWS.
Sophia McDevitt qualified in nine events: the 100 free, 50 backstroke, 100 individual medley, 500 free, 200 IM, 100 back and 200 free as well as both the 200 medley and 200 free relays.
Lilly Riley will swim the 50 butterfly, 50 free and 100 free along with the 200 medley and 200 free relays, with Quin Mahler-Moreno to compete in the 100 IM and both the 50 and 100 breaststroke as well as the 200 medley and 200 free relays.
Jaylene Karolus (12) will compete in the 11-12 100 back, 12U 200 medley relay and 14U 200 free relay while Abby Herman will be in the 50 free, 18U 200 medley relay and 18U 200 free relay.
Fourteen-year old Sarah Vaughn will be a part of both the 18U 200 medley and 200 free relays, while older sister Haley (17) — the team coach — will face a nine-event meet.
The older Vaughn will swim in the 15-18 division 50, 100 and 200 freestyle races, the 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke as well as in the 200 IM. She will also compete in the 18U 200 medley and 200 free relays.
