Pedalers for the pork pass through Perry Saturday

Perry became a porcine paradise for a couple of hours Saturday as an annual bacon-themed bike ride passed through town.

The Bacoon Ride — a mix of raccoon and bacon — is sponsored by the Iowa Bacon Board and the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival and trumpets its vision of making bacon great again: “In an effort to promote international bacon fellowship, the Iowa Bacon Board works tirelessly to share their message of joy, acceptance and celebration. Encouraging people throughout the world to put aside their differences, get goofy, have a few beers and break bacon together.”

The Iowa Bicycle Coalition and RAGBRAI also sponsor the ride, with 100 percent of the event’s proceeds benefitting the coalition’s bike safety programs.

The Hotel Pattee passed out bacon samples to riders who were packed between the boulevard barricades like hogs in a confinement. Minburn and Dallas Center were official bacon stops, and Dawson was not an official bacon stop, but bikers seemed to stop equally everywhere.
