Local access television broadcaster PEGASUS (Public Educational Governmental Access Service for US) will remain on analog channel 12, but only for those who have a converter box provided by Mediacom, local cable provider.
PEGASUS Coordinator Keith Knoll said he was recently informed by Mediacom that all digital subscribers would now be able to find the channel at 121 on their televisions. The move will not alter programming, Knoll said.
Now in its 21st year, PEGASUS provides free coverage of city council and school board meetings, as well as a wide variety of Perry varsity sporting events. The public-access broadcaster operates on about $40,000 annually from hotel-motel tax funds levied by the city of Perry.
The channel also broadcasts school activities and concerts, community events, church services, local opinion pieces and a range of submitted programming.
PEGASUS equipment, both video and editing, is available for use, free of charge, to anyone living in the Perry Community School District, provided the items borrowed are used to produce a program that would air on PEGASUS.
PEGASUS is located at 1014 Second St. in Perry and can be reached at 515-465-3793. Office hours are noon to 5 p.m. weekdays or by appointment.
Too bad Mediacom is the only way to access Pegasus.
