STORY CITY — Perry dominated from the opening tip Saturday to claim a 56-41 win over Roland-Story in non-conference cage action.

The final score was not indicative of Perry’s command of the contest, which started with the Bluejays rattling off the first 14 points in the game. The Bluejays (4-4) held a 24-8 lead after one quarter and extended their mragin to 19 points, at 32-13, entering the half.

The Norsemen (5-6) had no answer for the inside play of Janier Puente, who scored 14 of his 21 points in the first half. Balanced scoring helped the Jays outscore their hosts, 19-9, in the third period, allowing Perry to play a heavy substitution rotation in the fourth quarter, which began with Roland-Story trailing, 51-22.

A 19-5 scoring edge by the Norsemen in the final eight minutes brought the final spread to 15 points, with Carter Greenfield and Mitchell Shorkey each scoring eight points for the hosts.

Kyle Nevitt had 10 points and Drew Levan nine for the Jays, with Connor Nielsen adding six poitns, Brandon Kenyon four, Michael Meyer three and Noah Wilkening two points while Rashon Ivory providing a free throw.

Perry returns to action with a Tuesday trip to Boone and a Friday home date with Bondurant-Farrar.
