For one of the few times this season the weather was not a detriment for the prep golfers Saturday, with seven squads joining host Perry for the 18-hole Bluejay Invitational at the Perry Golf and Country Club.
Gilbert had the first two lowest individual scores and used those cards to help produce a winning total of 310, with ADM second at 330 and Norwalk third at 332. Greene County was fourth at 350, with Perry (356), Woodward-Granger (361), Pella Christian (369) and Carlisle (396) rounding out the field.
Joe Gibbons had a one-over par 37-36–73 to win overall medalist honors, with Gilbert teammate Tommy Doyle the runner-up with a 36-39–75. Perry senior Noah Wilkening had a 40-37–88 and ADM’s Micah Moyer a 38-39–77, with Wilkening winning a tiebreaker for the third medalist spot. Pella Christian’s Graham Howerzyl fired a 38-41–79, claiming the final medalist spot in a tiebreaker with Greene County’s Elijah Block, who turned in a 39-40–79.
Max Sutcliff led Norwalk with a 42-30–81 while Max Evans produced a 46-44–90 to lead Carlisle.
Connor Nielsen was second for Perry with a round of 47-40–87, with Dane McCarty carding a 48-48–96 and Tanner Duffy a 49-47–96 to complete the Bluejay varsity scoring.
Woodward-Granger was led by Nick Brummond’s 39-44–83. Brady Aunspach had a 45-46–91 and Austin Ober a 42-49–91, with Joe Rhodes joining the varsity scorers by providing a 49-47–96.
Each team also produced a junior varsity score, with Norwalk posting a winning 345. Gilbert (369) was second and ADM (375) third, with W-G (440), Perry (451), Greene County (469), Carlisle (496) and Pella Christian (590) following.
Perry’s JV scores were provided by Luke Rathje (46-53–99), Brady Iben (54-54–108), Gabe Ridnour (62-59–121) and Devin Patrick (68-55–123).
Scoring for the W-G JV were Max Helbling (51-50–101), Matt Buch (56-54–110), Nick Buch (60-53–113) and Hunter Pierce (62-54–116).
The Bluejays and their Jayette counterparts will host the annual Witmer-Dunphy Coed Invitational today. The event is named for longtime Perry coaches Dean Witmer and Larry Dunphy.
