The Perry grade 9-10 football team suffered a lopsided loss to Boone Friday.

BOONE — A late score in the second half helped add momentum for Boone, who cruised to a 40-6 win over Perry in Friday’s frosh/soph contest.

Boone led, 12-0, with 20 seconds left in the half when they returned a Perry punt for a touchdown.

Trailing 24-0 in the third quarter, Bluejay punter Ever Tobar took off on a fake and rambled 50 yards for the lone Perry points of the game.

Perry ran 28 times for 68 yards, with Erick Funez (15-54) leading the way. Jordan Ochoa (1-0), Konnor Eppert (1-6), Keghan West (1-3) and Jayson Chavez (7-1) all had carries for the Bluejays, as did Jeb Stewart (3, minus-2) and Abner Rivera (1, minus-3).

West hit 2-of-4 passes for 58 yards, both completions going to Rivera. Ochoa for 2-of-4 for 11 yards, with Jacob Nelson catching both passes, while Eppert was 1-2-1, hitting Byron Melendrez for four yards.

Perry was missing two defensive starters, but coach Shannon Cline admitted “tackling wasn’t good all game.”

Cline said Rivera and Tobar were bright spots for the team, noting Rivera had “shown his ability on offense.”
