CARROLL — The Bluejays opened an 8-0 lead, then managed to fend off a late charge from the Knights as Perry claimed a 12-10 victory over Kuemper Catholic in non-conference baseball Thursday.

Perry (7-18) scored twice in the second inning, then added six runs in the fourth to lead, 8-0. Kuemper Catholic scored three times in the fifth to trim their deficit to 8-3, but four Perry runs in the sixth widened the gap to 12-3.

However, the Knights were far from done, with three tallies in the sixth setting the score at 12-6. The hosts added four runs in the bottom of the seventh but could not make it all the way back into the game and suffered the loss.

A double from Brandon Kenyon and a walk and an error helped Perry score twice in the second. Adan Medina reached on an error and Kenyon singled to spark the fourth inning eruption, with an Aaron Lockwood single and walks to Justin Stammer and Kaleb Olejniczak plating one run, with a Kyle Nevitt RBI-ground out and Janier Puente triple helping the guests open their 8-0 edge.

A two-run double from Kenyon and RBI-hit from Alexis Garrido sparked the Bluejays in the sixth.

Kenyon finished with a single, two doubles, a RBI and three runs scored, with Lockwood adding two hits and scoring twice while Puente had two RBIs with a single and a triple. Nevitt and Garrido had run-scoring hits, with Olejniczak providing a single, a walk, two runs scored and one driven in.

Although scorebooks were provided, pitching stats for either team were not clear. Puente was the winner in what, unofficially, was 4-2/3 frames, with Garrido tossing 1-2/3 and Medina two-thirds of an inning.

Perry visits Pella Monday before concluding their regular season with a Raccoon River Conference tilt at Winterset Wednesday.
