Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn, left, and Detective Laura Deaton helped the Hy-Vee Pack the Bus campaign in 2017 when the police department donated a huge box full of backpacks.

Pack the Bus donation bags are available at the Perry Hy-Vee for $10 each.

The Perry Hy-Vee has launched its annual Pack the Bus event. Hy-Vee is selling bags filled with school supplies for $10 each and inviting its generous customers to support our kids.

These school supplies will be delivered to the Perry Elementary School, St. Patrick’s Catholic School and the Perry Food Pantry. The school stuff will help those students who do not have all they need to start the school year.

You can purchase a bag of supplies, and Hy-Vee will deliver it to the schools for you. Do you have school supplies around home that you want to share? Drop those off at the Perry Hy-Vee, and we will include that when we make our deliveries to the schools.

Commonly used school supplies include:

  • Blue or black pens
  • No. 2 pencils
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Highlighters
  • Permanent markers
  • Erasers
  • Pencil box or pouch
  • Crayons
  • Colored pencils
  • Washable markers
  • Three-ring binder
  • Glue sticks
  • Blunt-tipped scissors
  • Plastic folders
  • Assorted construction paper
  • Wide-ruled notebook or pad
  • Tissues
  • Backpack
  • Lunchbox or bag

To kick start our supply drive this year, Perry’s First Baptist Church and Crossroads Church donated more than $400 from collections made by the kids at this year’s Vacation Bible School.

In addition, officers of the Perry Police Department surprised Hy-Vee on the Police Night Out, when they donated a huge box of backpacks. Hy-Vee wants to recognize both these great Perry supporters. Partners like this make Perry the great place that it is.
