Members of the Perry Lions Club were addressed at their August meeting by Iowa Lions Club First Vice District Governor Ken Klemish of Adair, who praised the Perry Lions for their recent community activities and commended the growth seen over the past year in their membership numbers.

He gave special thanks to the Perry Lions who are U.S. veterans.

Klemish discussed Lions Club activities at the state level, especially the Leader Dogs for the Blind program. For more than 75 years, he said, Lions have helped to finance the seeing-eye program, identifying people in their communities who could benefit from Leader Dog’s services and assisting clients in filling out applications.

Along with spreading information about the program in their hometowns and Lions Club Districts, some Lions have acted as Leader Dog Chairpersons, become puppy raisers or hosted breeding stock dogs.

“We are constantly amazed at the breadth and depth of support we receive from Lions across America and throughout the world,” Klemish said, noting the Leader Dog Program is now in need of more funds because of the increase in blindness due to the rising rate of diabetes.

The Perry Lions pledged to continue their support of the Leader Dogs for the Blind program and thanked Klemish for his service and his report to the membership.
