Controlled — to some extent — chaos ruled at Kaufman Track Friday as the Perry Middle School track teams hosted a coed invitational.

Inexperienced athletes unsure of where to check in, where to stand, what hand off zones to use, when-to-be-where and all sorts of other uncertainties — along with the not-so-serious approach of the age groups in question led to something of a wild event. The Perry officials and volunteers somehow managed to keep confusion to the bare minimum, with smiling faces and plenty of laughter revealing the youngsters — of which only a small percentage will stick with the sport through high school — were having plenty of fun.

ADM scored 147 points to win the boys side, with Fort Dodge grade 7 second at 128 while Greene County was third at 126. Perry grade 7 was fourth at 69, Perry grade 8 fifth at 58 and DC-G grade 7 sixth at 28.

Winterset won the girls meet with 145 points, with Greene County (126) and Fort Dodge grade 7 (110) third. ADM (90) was fourth, with Perry grade 7-8 (74) fifth and Perry grade 7 sixth with two points.

Jeb Stewart clears a hurdle in the shuttle relay Friday during the Perry Middle School Coed Invitational.

Adan Ramirez was fourth, in 13.93 seconds and Francisco Colon fifth, in 14.38, in the 100; with DeShaw Salcedo sixth in the 200 in 30.88 while Ardadi Adum (1 minute, 3.18 seconds) was second and Jordan Ochoa third in 1:04.89 in the 400.

Adum won the 800 in 2:31.6, with Tyler Devilbiss fourth in the 1600 in 6:24.89. Luckyboy Kpan (16.71) and Josue Ramirez (20.41) were 1-6 in the 100 hurdles, with Riece Graham and Konnor Eppert 4-5 in the 200 hurdles in 34.13 and 35.51, respectively.

Adum cleared 4 feete, 8 inches to win the high jump, with Abner Rivera clearing 4’2 for sixth place while Colon flew 13’3-3/4 for sixth in the long jump. Ochoa (31 feet) and Jeb Stewart (28’9-3/4) were 3-4 in the shot put, with Miguel Sierra (58’9) sixth in the discus.

Joanna Rodriguez won the girls discus with a spin of 80’2, with Kennedy Tunink third at 64’7. Jasmine Shriver’s leap of 13’10 placed fifth in the long jump, with Jayna Kenney sailing over 3’10 for fifth in the high jump.

Quinn Whiton won the 100 in 14.33 seconds and was fourth in the 200 in 30.7, with Shriver second in the 100 (14.37) and 200 hurdles (34.63) while Bella Nath was fifth in the 1500 in 6:53.11.

Uncertainty over which relay team placed in which spot (teams had multiple entries in most) makes naming the official winners in some events difficult; all relay results are thus unofficial.

Kenney, Whiton, Shriver and Jazmin Hernandez were second the 4×100 in 1:00.5, with Sandra Perez, Libby Hastings, Joanna Rodriguez and Dontavia Iverson fifth in the 4×200 in 2:22.38 while Tunink, Iverson, Alyssa Grow and Yeynisy Argueta placed fifth in the 4×400 in 5:20.75.

Argueta, Nath, Peyton Tunink and Cindy Truong were third in the 4×800 (12:50.66), Lanie Fish, Daniela Santacruz, Kenney and Argueta finished fifth in the sprint medley (2:24) and Fish, Hernandez, Nath and Kennedy Tunink fifth in the distance medley (5:43.64).

The boys won the sprint medley when Jeanlucas Martinez, Jayson Chavez, Rivera and Ochoa crossed in 2:00.32. Kpan, Emanuel Soto, Caden Steva and Jose Flores were fourth (1:02.07) in the 4×100, Adan Ramirez, Abraham Ruiz, Darwin Sarceno and Kpan were fourth (1:59.88) in the 4×200 while Martinez, Rivera, Ochoa and Miguel Ramirez placed third (4:38.11) in the 4×400.

Plisken Chavez, Oscar Gutierrez, Kevin Guevera and Soto placed fourth in the distance medley in 5:05.77, with Alex Fickbohm, Ruiz, Guevera and Gutierrez fifth (13:24.02) in the 4×800.

The Perry Middle School girls will host the Mary Waggie Relays Thursday, with the boys teams hosting the John Turner relays May 1.
