The Perry Police Department just released the following statement about the incident this afternoon on Marengo Drive in Perry:

“On 04-26-I5 at about I700 hrs. the Perry Police Department was called to 2602 Marengo Drive in Perry to assist in a civil matter in regards to a domestic situation. When officers arrived and attempted to make contact with the male subject in the house, he at first answered the door and then retreated back into the house. At that time officers became concerned for their safety and the safety of the male due to a possible medical condition.

“The subject failed to respond to the officers’ attempts. Officers from the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, and the Metro SRT (Special Response Team) responded to assist. The male then began communicating with officers through emails. After several conversations, the officers felt secure in approaching the house. Officers did so and made contact with the male, who assured us that he was not in any medical emergency.

“Officers then cleared the scene. No criminal charges will be filed at this time.”
