Perry PD releases information on teen death Friday

The lights appeared to be on in every room of the house Sunday night at 1708 First Ave. in Perry, where a teenager died Friday.

The Perry Police Department released a statement Monday afternoon about the death of a 16-year-old girl Friday at 1708 First Ave.

Officers of the Perry Police Department and the Dallas County EMS were called to the house about 6:30 p.m., where they found “an unresponsive 16-year-old female.”

According to the statement by Police Chief Eric Vaughn, “Upon officers arrival, the female was found to be deceased. She was a household family member at the time of her death. The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.”

An autopsy was completed Monday morning at the State Medical Examiner’s office, Vaughn said, and the “cause of death is currently yet to be determined pending additional testing and the gathering of further information.”

Vaughn said the “investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death is ongoing. The Perry Police Department is being assisted in their investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Iowa Department of Human Services.”
