With anticipation among Perry-area pizza lovers at a fever pitch, Joe Comes, new owner of the Perry Pizza Hut, announced today the reopening of the longtime Perry restaurant will take place Aug. 4.

“We are very excited for this Tuesday,” Comes said. The second-generation restauranteur said he and his crew are finishing the last-minute touchups for the re-opening.

Comes, Manager David Brockman and Shift Leader Chris Little took possession of the building in early June. Comes owns 15 other locations in Iowa and South Dakota.

The Perry Pizza Hut has undergone extensive remodeling, including a new roof. It will re-open Tuesday.

“The remodeling process has been a slow one, but it’s definitely worth it,” the owner said. “It is definitely a complete 180 degrees from what Pizza Hut used to be. The restaurant has a more sporty theme to it.”

Brockman received a truckload of materials Friday morning and was busy arranging things in advance of the opening.

“There were 325 things on this morning’s truck,” he said, “and I’ll be at it all day today, arranging things for next week.”

A native of Ida Grove, Brockman lives in Minburn with his wife, who works in Winterset.

Along with the new tables and equipment, the refurbished eatery will also feature six television screens broadcasting news and sports, an expanded appetizer and dinner menu and a variety of new desserts. A lunch buffet will be offered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Sunday, with a dinner buffet on Tuesday nights.

Brockman acknowledged his convenience-store competitors have gobbled up a lot of the pizza business in Perry, but the new manager seems determined to regain lost ground.

“We’ll get it back,” he said. “Just watch.”

He said he is fully staffed with 20 employees. Some are still in training, Brockman said, and several managers from other Pizza Huts will be here Tuesday to help with further staff training.

Comes drew special attention to the store’s new offerings.

“The P’Zone is being brought back to the menu,” Comes said, “along with eight different flavors of wings, nacho waffle fries and onion rings. We will also be serving pizza pasta wings and a variety of desserts like fried apple pie and brownies.”

Pizza Hut will also deliver, a service Comes hopes will attract even more customers.

“I think it is a huge draw to the competition right now,” he said. “We will also be providing two vehicles for our drivers. They will have no expenses to pay. We take care of everything.”

Comes encourages anyone who wants to join the Pizza Hut team to apply at 2812 Willis Ave. or online at www.jobs.pizzahut.com.
