Perry-area youngsters can have some hands-on experience with tools of police officers, firefighters, ambulance paramedics and public works crews at the third annual Perry Public Safety Day, to be staged in the parking lot of the Perry Hy-Vee Saturday, Aug. 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Ladder trucks and the Jaws of Life will be among the large-sized attractions for the young people, who are encouraged to scramble into the patrol cars and sit behind the wheels of the fire trucks.
A mobile Smoke House will teach family fire safety. The kids can have their picture taken with all the equipment and can sign their names on a Perry Public Works Department snow plow.
“This is a fun event that brings people here and shows them the important work done for the community by the Perry Public Safety Department,” said Larry Vodenik of Perry, Hy-Vee community event coordinator.
The event is free and open to the public.
