Few names are more synonymous with youth sports in Perry than Harold Bailey. The late sports editor of The Perry Chief spent 52 years covering the athletic scene in Perry and was a particular fan of football and basketball — and softball.

Bailey would have been proud Sunday to see the Perry Reds 12U (12-under) team win their portion of the tourney named in his honor at Pattee Park.

Perry opened play with a 7-0 win over MAC Crusaders, a team comprised of likely future Dowling Catholic players. The Reds were 4-2 victors over Winterset in the semifinals before securing bragging rights with a 10-5 win over the Central Iowa Outlaws.

The Perry Reds 10U team was also in action in their own eight-team bracket. While Perry finished eighth, the team has only one 10-year old on the roster, with all expected to return to the diamond next summer.

The 12U Reds are: Sydney Barkley, Tories Devilbliss, Grace Garrett, Addison Huntington, Macy Kilmer, Lydia Olejniczak, Callie Steva, Nubia Torres, Maci Tunink, Peyton Tunink and Kathryn West.
