Perry Shop with a Cop lands $7,700 from 100+ People for Perry

The Perry Shop with a Cop program received a $7,700 donation Monday night from 100+ People for Perry.

The Perry Police Department’s Shop with a Cop program received $7,700 Monday night as the the 100+ People for Perry donors club rounded out its first year of local giving.

Shop with a Cop partners Perry students with officers of the Perry Police Department in providing gifts and assistance during the Christmas season.

The 100+ People for Perry gathered at La Poste and heard three of their members each make a pitch on behalf of a randomly selected project, with Shop with a Cop earning most votes.

The 77 members of 100+ People for Perry each then wrote a $100 check for presentation to the Perry Police Department.

The meeting began with a review of the mission and guidelines for 100+ People for Perry by Mark Powell. Perry High School Counselor Tami Valline outlined the good done by the money donated in August to the Student Needs Fund.

During its first year, 100+ People for Perry donated more than $27,000 to local projects:

  • Mount Olivet Lutheran Church’s bedding project received $5,000 in February.
  • Habitat for Humanity’s Rock the Block project received $7,000 in May.
  • Perry High School Student Needs Fund received $7,300 in August.
  • Perry Police Department Shop with a Cop received $7,700 in November.

The next meeting of 100+ People for Perry will be Monday, Feb. 27 at La Poste.
