Perry teams take to the track at Carroll

CARROLL — The Perry boys and girls track teams were in action Tuesday at Carroll, a meet pushed back from Monday due to adverse weather.

The Perry boys tied MVAO for third place with 89 points apiece after Carroll and IKM-Manning tied for the top honors after each tallied 126 points. Woodward-Granger (83) was fifth and Greene County (68) sixth.

Carroll easily won the girls meet with 152 points. IKM-M was second at 111 and Greene County third at 100, wit MVAO (86), W-G (66) and Perry (48) closing out the field.

“We shuffled the lineup and had a kind of mixed bag of performances,” Jayette head coach Matt Hardy said. “The distance medley placed first, with solid legs being run by each girl.”

Rachel Kinney, Breanna Penenger, Haley Vaughn and Sid Vancil team to win the relay in 4 minutes, 40.39 seconds, the sole first-place finish for a jumbled Perry lineup.

Penenger was second in the 400 low hurdles in 1:18.57, with Grace Stewart shaving 17 seconds of her previous outing in the 3000 to place second in 12:34.87 while Joselyn Carrillo set a new personal mark by seven seconds in finishing fourth in the 1500 in 6:14.48.

Jaky Castaneda was fifth in the 800 (2:54.44), Damaris Robles sixth in the 400 (1:09.92) and Emma Humpal fifth in the 100 (15.57) while Zoe Gordon’s leap of 12 feet, 3-3/4 inches scored a point for sixth place in the long jump.

Humpal, Gordon, Isabel Saemisch and Star Love were fourth in the 4×100, with Love, Erica Crawford, Chelsea Krueger and Alejandra Rivera fifth in the 4×200 (2:09.43) while Vaughn, Vancil, Penenger and Robles finished the 4×400 (4:34.76) in fourth place.

Penenger, Castaneda, Carrillo and Rivera were fifth, in 11:50.55, in the 4×800, with the quartet of Vancil, Kinney, Vaughn and Saemisch sixth, in 2:09.86, in the sprint medley.

Reece Dunlap was first (23.26) and Adan Medina second (23.92) in the 200, with Dunlap third (11.8) in the 100 while Devon Archer crossed fifth in the 400 (59.96).

Brandon Kenyon claimed the 800 in 2:09.26, with Zach Stewart fourth in 2:17.93 while Eduardo Sanchez was fifth in the 3200 run in 12:12.98 while Jered Narber’s 1:07.35 placed sixth in the 400 low hurdles.

Dunlap, Zachary Thompson, Rashon Ivory and Kaleb Olejniczak won the 4×400 in 3:37.11, with Medina, Archer, Ivory and Kenyon winning the 4×800 in 8:58.86. Mana Martinez, Nic Fellom, Justin Stammer and Olejniczak were third (1:40.42) in the 4×200, with the same combination also third (1:43.69) in the sprint medley while Stammer, Donald Chavez, Justus Williams and Joseph Clark finished fourth in the 4×100 in 48.94.

Both Perry teams are at home tonight as Kaufman Track hosts the Bluejay/Jayette Invitational. Boys teams competing will include Boone, Carroll and Norwalk, with Clarke, Greene County, North Polk, Roland-Story and Winterset to contend with the hosts for the girls title. The meet will begin at 4:30 p.m.
