Perry thinclads participate in Greene County Coed

JEFFERSON — Pleasant weather greeted a large field of athletes at Linduska Field for the annual Greene County Coed Invitational Monday.

Boone claimed the boys team title with 132 points, with Carroll second at 110 and AC/GC third at 81. Kuemper Catholic was fourth with 76 points, with East Sac County (61), Greene County (50), Saydel (39) and Perry (37) completing the field.

ADM scored 146 points to win the girls side of the meet. Boone was second with 103 points and South Tama County third at 99, with Carroll (81), Greene County (71), Perry (43), Kuemper Catholic (37) and East Sac County (9) also in action.

Jayette junior Grace Stewart provided 10 points by winning the 3000 run in 12 minutes, 19.64 seconds, with teammate Joselyn Carrillo placing sixth in 14:00.34.

Sid Vancil and Haley Vaughn each placed in the 800, with the former second in 2:30.42 and the latter fourth in 2:44.28.

Breanna Penenger’s time of 1:19.53 was fifth fastest in the 400 low hurdles, with Stewart placing sixth in the 1500 in 5:47.67.

Vancil, Vaughn, Penenger and Damaris Robles crossed second in the 4×800 in 10:54.14, with the same quartet capping the meet with a third-place effort of 4:36.34 in the 4×400.

Brandon Kenyon races an Ottumwa thinclad to the line for the first exchange in the 4×800 at the Bluejay/Jayette Invitational Thursday.

Alejandra Rivera, Isabel Saemisch, Rachel Kinney and Robles were second in the 4×200 (2:03.02), with Rivera, Kinney and Saemisch joined by Emma Humpal for sixth place in teh sprint medley (2:11.04).

The Bluejays scored in only four events, but were impressive in three of the four.

Reece Dunlap and Adan Medina swept the top two spots in the 400, crossing in 52.07 and 53.02. The pair were joined by Brandon Kenyon and Rashon Ivory for the final event, the 4×400, with the foursome won in 3:30.53.

Ivory, Kenyon, Alexis Garrido and Nic Fellom raced to second place, in 3:48.17, in the sprint medley, with Jered Narber adding a team point by placing sixth, in 19.15 clicks, in the 110 high hurdles.

Both Perry teams will travel to Newton Thursday, but will then head to different destinations April 25, with the Bluejays visiting Carlisle while the Jayettes make the shorter trip to ADM.
