Perry volleyball season ends at Harlan

HARLAN — Host Harlan riddled the Perry defense with 16 ace serves to help lead the Cyclones to a 3-0 sweep of the Jayettes in their Class 4A Region 2 first round match Wednesday.

Harlan (23-12) advances to face host and sixth-ranked Sergeant Bluff-Luton (36-3) Tuesday. Sidney Craig did the most damage, serving 24-of-24 with seven aces as the Cyclones finished 71-of-74 (.959) behind the line Wednesday.

Perry (7-26) did not have an ace in the loss, finishing a combined 39-of-43 (.907) serving.

Jo Diw recorded 13 kills for Perry, with Isabel Saemisch making three kills and Jaqueline Guardado and Sid Vancil one apiece. Vancil had 15 assists, Syd Guerra two and Gabby West one.

Guerra had 10 digs and Diw six, with Magley Orellana posting three digs and Vancil one.

Vancil was 11-of-11 serving and Saemisch 8-of-9 while Guerra was 6-of-6. Diw was 6-of-8, Orellana 4-of-4 and Adriana Eastman 4-of-5 for Perry.

The loss was the final match for seniors Diw, Guerra, Saemisch and Vancil.
