Peter Pan flies to Perry March 31, April 1

“Peter Pan,” the spring Perry High School Drama Department’s musical extravaganza, will be staged in the Perry Performing Arts Center Friday, March 31 at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 1 at a 1 p.m. matinee and again at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets for the show are $5 for adults and $4 for students and are on sale now in the high school office. For more information, cal 515-465-3503.

For theater goers longing for a more interactive experience of the play, a special event, “Tea with Captain Hook and Wendy,” will be held in the PHS commons Saturday, April 1 at 4 p.m. Pan fans will enjoy beverages and desserts with Captain Hook and Wendy, with other characters possibly making special appearances.

Tickets for “Tea with Captain Hook and Wendy” are $5 and can be purchased in the high school office and at the Friday night and Saturday afternoon performances.

“It’s going to be an amazing show,” said Jenn Nelson, vocal music instructor, “with 60 students in the cast, including 14 boys in grades 2-8, a live pit orchestra, professional choreography, a huge set, beautiful costumes and amazing special effects, including flying.”

Nelson said the cast will perform school preview shows next week on Tuesday morning for students at the elementary school, middle school, high school and St. Pat’s.

The character of Peter Pan was created in the early 1900s by the Scottish writer J. M. Barrie. Peter Pan is a fairy-like boy who can fly and who never grows up. Other characters include Wendy Darling, Tinker Bell, Captain Hook and Mr. Smee.

The Perry Performing Arts Center is located at 1200 18th St. in Perry.
