Pfau, Stewart stand out for Perry track teams at Greene County Relays

Six starters return for the Jayettes, who can no longer be penciled in as an "automatic win" on any team's schedule.

JEFFERSON — Bluejay senior Keegan Pfau and Jayette freshman Grace Stewart both provided strong efforts for the Perry track teams Monday at a windy and blustery Greene County Co-ed Relays at Linduska Field.

Pfau was second for Perry in 800, 1600 and 3200 meter runs, finishing in times of 2 minutes, 5.49 seconds, 4:57.86 and 10:35.95, respectively while Stewart was second in the 3000 in 12:26.01 and third in the 1500 in 5:55.

Adan Medina was fourth in the 400 for the Jays in 57.67 with Reece Dunlap fifth in the 100 in 11.8 while Eli Saemisch and Marcus Meri crossed 5-6 in the 200 in 24.92 and 24.98 ticks, respectively.

Perry also received individual event points from Keegan Wolfe in the 400 hurdles (sixth in 1:04.05) and from Dane McCarty in the 800 (sixth in 2;19.64).

Austin Hay, Alex Long, Jacob Thompson and Cole Chance were third in the 4×800 (9:26.94), with Meri, Dunlap, Saemisch and Nic Wilhelmi third in the 4×200 (1:40.26) while Wilhelmi, Dunlap, Hay and Long teamed for third in the 1600 medley (4:08.89).

The Bluejays were fourth in the shuttle hurdle (1:08.93), 4×100 (48.44) and 4×400 (3:51.65), but relay member names were not provided.

Perry was fifth among eight teams on the boys side of the meet, although final official scoring was not available at press time.

The Jayettes scored 39 points for sixth place in their team standings. Greene County (177) and Boone (147) dominated the meet, with ADM (85), East Sac County(56), Kuemper Catholic (48), Perry (39) and Carroll (35) completing the field.

Leah Reuter was third in the 3000 in 12:51.94 and Sidney Vancil crossed third in the 400 in 1:08.36 while Amy Marckres spun the discus 85 feet, 2 inches for fifth to account for the remainder of the points collected by the Perry girls in individual disciplines.

Maggie Lowe, Haileigh Kenyon, Emma Olejniczak and Breanna Penenger raced to third in the distance medley relay in 4:33.77, with Mary Wilhelmi, Star Love, Erica Crawford and Ciera Bronenberg fifth in the 4×800 in 12:56 while Olejniczak, Vancil, Peneger and Lowe placed fifth in the 4×400 in 4:35.69.

The Jayettes also scored in the 4×200, with the unit of Alejandra Rivera, Claire Marburger, Isabel Saemisch and Marckres placing sixth in 2:07.71.

In other news, Perry senior Scott James has qualified for the high jump at the Drake Relays. James, who has cleared the bar at 6’4 this season, will be competing in his specialty Thursday.
