The Perry High School Class of 1967 marked its half-century milestone last weekend, with reunion activities that drew about 100 alumni and spouses.
PHS grad Connie Johnson McGuire wrote the following summary of the weekend’s reunion activities. She was a member of the reunion organizing committee that also included Marty Haas, Chuck Yanders, Linda Timeon Knosby, Deborah Pell Dolan, Mary Lou Daniels Harris, Cheryl Rousch Matravers, Christy Boyens Dolan, Judy Sapp Jesse, Cathy Gardner Anderson, Terry Murphy, Diana Sorber Murphy, Janet Brown Sheehy and Tanna Travarthan Corrigan.
The weekend started Friday afternoon with painting of the Rock, then off to the Perry Golf and Country Club, where we had our first get together. For some this was the first time they had ever been back to Perry for a class reunion.
Saturday we went on a tour of the Perry High School, which is now the middle school, with Tom Lipovac as our guide. After the tour, John Palmer of the Perry Historic Preservation Commission gave us a narrative bus ride around Perry while giving us a little history lesson in the process.
We got together on Friday and Saturday nights, with Larry Vodenik of the Perry Historic Preservation Commission showing slides of Perry in the 1960s and us as young high school kids.
John Palmer and Joe McCarty of the Perry Historic Preservation Commission from the Perry Historic Preservation Commission were available for questions and to sell books detailing Perry’s past.
Our class wanted to thank Tom, John, Larry and Joe for making our reunion special. We would also like to thank Hy-Vee and Dustin Deitrick, kitchen manager, for the great hors d’oeuvres and a wonderful meal and the Perry Country Club and everyone who made our weekend a time we won’t forget.
We had close to 100 classmates and their spouses present for both nights’ activities. The reunion organizing committee was very pleased with the response.
