Perry High School junior Breanna Penenger attended a master class Friday afternoon with Broadway performer Stephanie J. Block at the Temple for Performing Arts in Des Moines.

Block most recently starred as Trina in Lincoln Center’s highly acclaimed revival of “Falsettos” and has taken leading roles in “Anything Goes,” “The Boy from Oz,” “The Pirate Queen,” “By the Way,” “Meet Vera Stark,” “9-5: The Musical,” “Little Miss Sunshine” and “The Mystery of Edwin Drood.”

Block also starred in the First National Touring Company production of “Wicked” in the part of Elphaba.

As part of the master class, Penenger performed the song “Neverland” from “Peter Pan,” receiving voice coaching and tips from Block.

Penenger also attended Block’s Broadway Cabaret Concert at the Temple that same evening with PHS Drama Director Merrilee Bales. This opportunity for advanced instruction was made possible by PHS’s participation in the Iowa High School Musical Theatre Awards.
