PSST places fourth at IWSC meet

Lilly Riley (9-10) led the PSST swimmers at Saturday's IWSC meet with four victories and one third-place finish.

SAC CITY — Although several key pieces were missing, the Perry Summer Swim Team still managed to cap an undefeated regular season with a fourth-place showing at Saturday’s Iowa West Swim Conference meet.

Only 12.5 points separated the top four teams, with Guthrie Center nipping Jefferson, 234.5-234 for top honors while Carroll (228.5) was third and Perry (222) fourth. Coon Rapids was fifth at 168.5 and Denison sixth at 167, with Sac City (129), Lake City (66.5), Glidden (33) and Manning (1) completing the field.

Lilly Riley (9-10) had four first-place finishes for Perry, with fellow 9-10 swimmers Quin Mahler-Moreno winning three times while Zoe Hibbert and Rebecca Johnson each won twice. Sophia McDevitt (11-12) and Haley Vaughn (15-18) each posted a single win for the Perry girls, with Isaac Winey (8U) and Kane Mahler-Moreno (9-10) both one-time victors for the boys squad.

Second-place results for the girls team went to 8U members Aleah Karolus (2 times), Isabelle Powell, Rachel Johnson and Sarah Prombo, to 11-12 competitors Sophia McDevitt (four), Jaylene Karolus (three), Addison Huntington (two) and Hailey Greiner and to 15-18 swimmers Brenna Penenger and Haley Vaughn (twice each), and to Stephanie Hill and Dannah Karolus.

Boys placing second were 15-18’s Ethan Winey (twice), 11-12 member Garrett Winey and to 13-14 racers Dylan Winey (twice) and Samuel Ridnour, Marcus Nelsen and Cristopher Gonzalez.

Quin Mahler-Moreno and Lilly Riley (both 9-10) and Haley Vaughn (15-18) each placed third in one race for PSST.

The Perry boys had a wide range of third-place finishers. At 9-10 Joel Storey was first once, with Sam Ridnour third twice while fellow 13-14 swimmers Dylan Winey, Marcus Nelsen and Cristopher Gonzalez were each third in one race. The 11-12 unit had Garrett Winey place third three times, with Josh Prombo, Ian Thompson and Logan Castillo all touching third in two events.

Only top-three finishers from relays or individual events are listed.
