A quick response by area firefighters stopped a garage fire in rural Redfield from spreading to a nearby house Thursday night.
Volunteer fire departments from Adel, Redfield and Dallas Center were dispatched to 18572 290th St. at about 9:15 p.m. after a fire was reported in a detached garage at the home of Ryan and Elicia Brancheau.
“My wife looked out and said, ‘Hey, the garage is on fire,'” Brancheau said at the scene. “It was already going pretty good by then. I’m glad they got out here so quick and stopped it before it spread to the house.”
Brancheau said he and his wife got their three children safely out of the house and were also able to move their vehicles away from the flames.
Adel Volunteer Fire Department Chief Tim Morlan said the fire was quickly controlled once fire crews arrived, but the garage was a total loss. He said the cause of the fire was unknown at this hour.
