The rains held off just long enough Friday for the classic rock echoes of local favorites Rukkus to fade at this year’s Friday Fest, sponsored by the Perry Chamber of Commerce, the Raccoon Valley Bank and the Dallas County Hospital.

“Everybody loves Friday Fest, and everybody loves Rukkus,” said Bob Wilson, executive director of the Perry Chamber of Commerce, “and we don’t mind getting a little soggy listening to them.”

Rukkus has roots in Perry. The core members — lead singer Mark Einck of Perry, lead guitarist Jim Wuebker of Grimes and rhythm guitarist J. C. Wilson of Des Moines — have played together since seventh grade.

Other band members included Ben Einck of Des Moines on keyboards and guitar and Urbandale’s Steve Rorebeck, former Flying Marsupials member, who rocked steady on drums.

Half a dozen local food vendors satisfied most every nutritional need at Friday Fest, and some said they would also set up shop Saturday when the fourth annual Baccoon Ride passes through Perry.
