Myles Hegstrom, left, DCH Maaintenance Manager, faces a trio of firefighting Eitemans early Sunday evening as air in the sprinkler system causes a false fire alarm to sound.

The Perry Volunteer Fire Department was called to the Dallas County Hospital at 6 a.m. Saturday and again at 5:30 p.m. Sunday when the building’s fire alarm system was set off, in both cases falsely.

Myles Hegstrom, DCH Maintenance Manager, said he believed the false positives were connected with ongoing construction on the hospital’s second-floor atrium.

“They’re repiping the sprinkler system for the lower ceilings,” Hegstrom said, “and they drained the system to do it. I think there’s probably air in the system and when it shifts, it simulates a flow and triggers the alarms.”

Assistant Fire Chief Frank Eiteman led the crew of firefighters to the scene and from there back to the station.
