If plans now in place work out, the Perry Pizza Hut will reopen almost sooner than you can say, “Putt, putt.”
Joe Comes, president of West Des Moines-based Comes Investments Inc., said he is shooting for a late-June reopen date.
“We hope to be open June 25,” Comes said, “but that all depends on the contractor’s completion date.” He owns 13 Pizza Hut franchises in Iowa and South Dakota, he said.
Perry realtor Rich Saemisch, who owns the property at 2812 Willis Ave., told the Perry City Council Monday night about Comes’ plans for improving and expanding the 45-year-old building.
“Joe is aggressive and really wants to bring this place and this business back to life,” Saemisch said.
The council voted unanimously to approve Comes’ application for an urban renewal loan of $25,000 from the city’s revolving loan fund. The interest on the five-year loan is 3 percent.
“We will be doing some modifications to the building,” Comes said, “in the form of a new roof, and there will be new seating tables, carpet and decor.”
The new Pizza Hut will also offer both daytime and evening delivery, Comes said.
“We supply the cars to our drivers and use them as rolling billboards,” he said. “We will also be offering Wingstreet–with eight new wing flavors–along with expanded appetizers and sandwiches.”
Comes said he is taking application for work at the refurbished Pizza Hut. To apply, send an email to Comes at myhometownpizzahut@gmail.com or www.pizzahut.com and click Careers.
I hope that means they’ll be getting a new manager too.
