Perry’s Optimist Club International admitted several new member to its ranks at this month’s meeting. Trace Schmitt, branch manager of the Great Western Bank in Perry, was presented a certificate of membership by Optimist Club Treasurer and fellow Great Western Bank team member Jeanson E. Mena Mendez.

Also welcomed to the Optimist fold were Alaina Rohe, Andrea Brownlee and Bob Wilson, who will receive membership certificates at future club meetings.

Optimist Club President Jenny Eklund welcomed new and recent members, thanked old members for their ongoing support and gently teased Past President Dr. Randy McCaulley for the fewer new members gained under his presidency than under hers.

The members heard reports on the recent Optimist Club essay contest and on plans for the upcoming Perry Middle School dance and Iowa Cubs concession stand duties. Eklund also informed the club about a fiber art fair planned for May.

The Optimist Club meets monthly on the first Wednesday at 6 p.m. For more information, contact Eklund at jenny@theartandsoulstudios.com.
