HUXLEY — The story — so far as Perry was concerned — came in two parts Thursday when the boys middle school thinclads ran at the Ballard Relays.
The first part was the Bluejays scoring a solid 108 points, but still finishing 53 points behind first-place Roland-Story.
The second part? A pair of new school records were set along the way.
Seventh-grader Osea Tobongye has been a point-scoring machine all spring and he did little to change that perception Thursday by speeding to a new PMS 7th grade school mark of 24.85 seconds in winning the 200 dash. Teammate Freddy Flores was sixth in the race in 26.03.
Tobongye capped his meet by joining eighth graders Flores, Kaleb Olejniczak and Johnathan Castro for a new grade 8 school record when the foursome won the 4×400 in 3 mintues, 54.46 seconds.
Perry won the distance medley in 4:11.78, was second in the sprint medley in 1:52.78, third in both the 4×200 (1:51.67) and 4×800 (10:23.02) and fifth in the 4×100 (56.15). Relay team names for those races were not provided.
Justin Stammer and Jared Narber were 2-6 in the 200 hurdles in 30.21 and 30.99, respectively, with Castro and Tobongye 2-4 in the 400 in 57.37 and 59.07, with Marco Lopez and Tyler Fessler 4-6 in the 800 in 2:26.42 and 2:29.25.
Mario Cruz placed fifth in the 1600 in 5:11.77, with Ernest Seaton and Ever Tobar 5-6 in the 100 in 12.76 and 12.77 seconds.
Perry added 11 points in a competitive long jump competition, with Stammer winning on a leap of 16 feet, 6-1/2 inches while Seaton landed sixth in 16’2-3/4.
