Perry line coach Jim Richmond looks on as the big fellas practice their footwork Wednesday.

Perry and Woodward-Granger will open their respective football seasons with a pair of non-district battles August 28, but both will take to the gridiron for scrimmages tonight.

Classes will not start at Woodward-Granger until August 31, but the Hawk gridders were learning lessons of a different kind Thursday.

Perry will travel to Baxter to play CMB, with the scrimmage starting at 6 p.m. W-G will hold an intra-squad scrimmage at Hawk Stadium beginning at 7 p.m. A donation of a sports drink will serve as admission to either site.

The Bluejays open their season against the Tigers of ADM in the “Hunger Rock” game at Dewey Field next Friday, with the varsity contest to start at 7:30 p.m. ADM was a 15-9 winner in sloppy conditions — the game had a 30-minute weather delay — at Adel last season.

The Hawks will entertain Martensdale-St. Marys at 7 p.m. W-G topped the Blue Devils, 36-20, in the first game of the 2014 season.
