Season ends for Jayette golfers in Newton

NEWTON — The Perry girls golfers were eliminated from postseason contention after 18 holes of play at at a Class 4A Regional at Westwood Golf Course Tuesday.

Newton fired a combined 385 and ADM a 396 to earn the two team advancement spots out of the field of 12 squads.

With only one upperclassman on an already small squad, Perry head coach Joel Happel said early in the season that the 2015 campaign would be one in which earning experience — and not generating great scores — would be the payoff and such was the case Tuesday, as the Jayettes shot a 554.

Sophomore Sarah Sweet led Perry with a 58-68–126, with freshman Skylar Cunningham shooting a 67-66–133 while senior Laurann Perry had a 71-68–139 and frosh Caley Hager a 79-77–156.

Advancing as individuals were Sarah Frischmeyer of Grinnell (84), Madison Hance of Creston (86), Jessica Reynolds of Newton (87), Lexi Owen of ADM (90) and both Anna Roslien of Pella and Madison Houge of Ballard after both tied for fifth place with rounds of 92.

Creston was third in the team standings with a 4-6, with Grinnell fourth at 416 and Pella fifth at 418 while Norwalk (432), Knoxville (449), Carlisle (455), Balllard (457), DC-G (469), Perry (554) and Winterset (586) completed the field.
