DES MOINES — The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 11 p.m. Saturday for the Perry area and portions of central Iowa.
Severe thunderstorms are possible across Iowa late Saturday afternoon and evening. The primary threat is large hail up to ping-pong-size hail, with a lesser threat being damaging wind gusts and perhaps an isolated tornado.
Localized flash flooding cannot be ruled out where recent rains from Friday and earlier Saturday morning have saturated soils, which might lead to increased runoff rates.
