ADEL — A starting date of Monday, Jan. 29 for the trial of Marc Ray and Misty Jo Bousman Ray of Perry was given provisional approval Friday by Dallas County District Court Judge Terry Rickers.
The Rays are accused of first-degree murder in the starvation death of their adopted daughter, Sabrina Ray, 16, who died May 12.
Also charged in the death were Carla Raye Bousman, 62, the mother of Misty Jo Bousman Ray; Justin Dale Ray, 21, the son of Marc and Misty Ray; and Josie Raye Bousman, 20, a niece of Misty Ray.
Sabrina Ray weighed just 56 pounds at the time of her death.
A motion was filed Wednesday by Assistant Dallas County Attorney Stacy Ritchie requesting that child witnesses be allowed to testify outside the presence of the defendants. A hearing on the request is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 21.
Marc Ray, 41, and Misty Ray, 40, were arrested May 18 in connection with the death. Marc Ray has also been charged with one count of second-degree sexual abuse for a child under 12 and one count of third-degree sexual abuse for a person 12 or 13 years old in a case unrelated to the starvation death of Sabrina Ray
