MINNEAPOLIS — The Perry Area Winter Swim team sent nine members to the regional meet at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center last weekend, and all produced results for which they can be proud.

PAWS members joined with swimmers from Clarinda and from Denison to compete in relays as the Blue Waves, with many of those races finishing strongly.

Perry senior and PAWS coach Haley Vaughn competed seven individual events and two relays in the 18U division. She swam the 100 freestyle in 1 minute, 1.07 seconds and the 200 free in 2:17.12 while touching in 27.08 seconds in the 50 free. She also posted times of 1:07.26 in the 100 butterfly, of 1:13.59 in the 100 backstroke and of 1:17.94 in the 100 breaststroke while touching in 2:30.71 in the 200 individual medley. Vaughn was also part of the 10th place 200 free relay and the 17th place 200 medley relay.

Sophia McDevitt was impressive in the 9-10 division, placing no worse than sixth in her seven individual swims. She was second in the grueling 500 free with a time of 6:19.12, was third in the 100 backstroke (1:16.78) and 200 free (2:24.38) while placing fourth in the 100 free (1:05.82). McDevitt was fourth in both the 100 and 200 individual medley races and was sixth in the 50 backstroke (35.67).

Lilly Riley (9-10) competed in the 50 free (33.74), 100 free (1:12.59) and 50 butterfly (time n/a), while Quinn Mahler-Moreno competed in the 9-10 division 100 individual medley (time n/a), 50 breastroke (43.64) and 100 breaststroke (1:38.29).
