The PCSD Board of Education consists of, from left: Director Linda Andorf, Vice President Jim Lutmer, President Kyle Baxter, Superintendent Lynn Ubben, Secretary Kent Bultman, Director Kenia Alarcon and Director Marjean Gries. Ubben is retiring, and the process of hiring her replacement is beginning.

Lynn Ubben joined the Perry Community School District as superintendent in 2009, and with her retirement pending, the PCSD Board of Education finds itself searching for a new face to put in the top spot — an experience that will be new to the board members, none of who were in place when Ubben was hired.

Director Marjean Gries was a member of the teacher sub-committee helping with the hiring of a superintendent in the past, but, like President Kyle Baxter, Vice President Jim Lutmer and fellow Directors Kenia Alarcon and Linda Andorf, this will be her first time as a board member when a new person is installed to lead the 1,834 student district.

Applications were recently posted on TeachIowa.org and the district website with the board asking that applications be mailed no later than March 17, or emailed no later than March 20.

The board expects to review all applications, and select several interviews from those, March 21. Potential candidates will be contacted March 22, with interviews with board members and select committees of stakeholders — parents, teachers, administrators and community members — to be conducted March 29-31.

Board members will independently submit their recommendations when the board meets to chose a candidate for hire April 3. The regular April meeting of the board will be held April 10 at 6 p.m. in the Brady Library at PHS, where it is expected the board will offer a contract to the new superintendent, who will assume their office and new duties July 1.
