DES MOINES — Perry freshman Zach Thompson held off Chariton frosh Gabe Ruepke to claim a 7-5 decision in their Class 2A 106-pound quarterfinal at the State Wrestling Tournament this morning.

Thompson (46-9) will face No. 2 Michael Millage (40-1) of Crestwood for the right to wrestle for the state title tonight in a session starting at 7:30 p.m.. Millage handed top-ranked Gable Sieperda (49-1) of Central

Lyon/George-Little Rock his first loss of the season with a pin in 4 minutes, 34 seconds.

The Thompson vs. Millage winner will face either Columbus Junction junior Josh Keller (42-3) or Northeast Hampton frosh Noah Fye (44-2) for top honors.

A loss would drop Thompson into a Saturday morning consolation bout with either Dante Tacchia (25-3, Soph) of Iowa Falls-Alden or 44-8 junior Jon Hellman of LaPorte City-Union. The winner would wrestle for third place, the loser for fifth.
