Ajay Nair, associate professor and vegetable specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, sent out an invitation Tuesday to all fruit and vegetable growers, Master Gardeners and fruit and vegetable enthusiasts around Iowa to attend the the 2017 Fruit and Vegetable Field Day Monday, Aug. 7 at the Iowa State University Horticulture Research Station at 55519 170th St. in Ames.

“The fruit and vegetable field day will provide an opportunity,” Nair said, “to evaluate several research projects focusing on high tunnel pepper and peach production, tomato grafting, integration of poultry and vegetable production, pest management in gourd crops, viticulture, growing hops and honey bee health and behavior studies.”

The field day runs from 2-6:30 p.m. and includes demonstrations of tools and equipment (potato digger, vegetable wash station). Nair said the overall objective is to “highlight new and innovative production practices and techniques in fruit and vegetable production that could be utilized by commercial and local producers.”

The event is free but registration is required because an accurate head count is needed for supper, which is included as part of the event. Please click the link below to register. Registration deadline is July 31 on the ISU Extension and Outreach website.
