A Perry man was arrested Wednesday after he was found in possession of a super fuel-efficient car built by the PHS students that was discovered missing Tuesday morning.
Alan Heywood, 33, of 1305 First Ave. in Perry was arrested by officers of the Perry Police Department about 8 a.m. Wednesday on a charge of second-degree theft in connection with the stolen property.
Melanie Tolle of Perry called the Perry Police Department when she recognized the experimental car. Tolle told police the vehicle appeared to be stuck at 16th and North streets, and “the stickers have been removed.”
“Thanks to an alert citizen who saw the vehicle and alerted us to it, we were able to recover the vehicle and charge a suspect,” Perry Police Department Chief Eric Vaughn said Wednesday afternoon.
The car, valued at $3,500, was one of three stored in a trailer near the high school. It was believed stolen sometime between July 4 and July 18, according to the police report.
Heywood is being held at the Dallas County Jail on $5,000 bond.
