The Perry Police Department is searching for a Perry teen reported missing Sunday.

An assault on the Raccoon River Valley Trail occurring west of Perry about 5:45 p.m. Saturday has been confirmed by the Perry Police Department.

“There was an assault that occurred,” said a Perry Police Department spokesperson, “and we had to page the paramedics for one of them. The suspect took off on his bike and just continued. He was intoxicated.”

The spokesperson said she did not know “the root of the problem” or cause of the assault but confirmed the parties involved knew one another. The alleged victim “had some minor abrasions,” the spokesperson said, but refused medical transport.

The incident began shortly before 6 p.m. when a call to the Perry Police Department reported a 30-year-old male was assaulted on the popular biking and recreation trail about one-half mile west of the Raccoon River between Perry and Dawson.

The alleged victim reportedly fell and struck his head after encountering a second man, described as shirtless, tattooed and wearing black shorts, with a white bandana under his bike helmet.

Officers of the Perry Police Department and Dallas County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the call for service. By about 5:55 p.m. a Perry Police Department officer stopped a man riding eastbound near the river who fit the description of the alleged assailant.

According to radio traffic, the alleged assailant informed Perry Police of the location of the alleged victim, who was located by law enforcement about one-half mile west of the river about 6 p.m.

The incident occurred outside the city limits of Perry and so fell under the jurisdiction of the Dallas County Sheriff’s office. As of 9:15 p.m. Saturday, the sheriff’s office could not release the name of the parties involved in the incident or even tell whether charges were pending or already filed.

All questions were referred to Lt. Adam Infante of the Dallas County Sheriff’s office. Infante has not returned calls at this hour. ThePerryNews.com will update this story as information becomes available.

A medical incident earlier Saturday on the High Trestle Trail east of Woodward involved local law enforcement and medical personnel in similar difficulties in determining the exact location of the incident on the largely unmarked trail.

“There’s no streets there,” the Perry Police Department spokesperson said of the evening incident, “just a trail in the middle of nowhere almost.”
