MADRID — Cole Theisen and Matt Rhodes combined for a three-hit shutout as Woodward-Granger notched a business-like 9-0 win over Madrid in WCAC baseball Monday.
Theisen yielded three hits while striking out four in 4-2/3 scoreless innings, with Rhodes fanning three in 2-1/3 frames. Neither walked a batter.
W-G (25-0, 16-0), now ranked fourth in Class 2A, scored once in the first inning and once in the third before plating five runs in the fifth. A two-spot in the top of the seventh completed the scoring.
Spencer Hansen had three hits and a RBI, with Theisen recording a single and a double while driving in two runs. Rhodes had two hits and two RBIs, with Reese Jamison tallying a single and two RBIs while Marcus McConahay, Brady Aunspach and Bryce Achenbach also recorded hits. McConahay scored three times and had two steals to aid the winning cause.
The Hawks host Greene County tonight in non-conference play before playing in a twinbill quickly accumulating statewide attention, as W-G will visit No. 8 Van Meter (22-2) for a WCAC doubleheader Thursday, with the first game starting at 5 p.m.
