Matt Buch is about to take one for the team last summer. He had two singles, a double and two RBIs in Tuesday's win at AC/GC.

WINTERSET — Friday’s non-conference game at Winterset included a home team on a five-game winning streak. Unfortunately for the hosts, it also featured a visiting squad who had won each of their first 22 contests.

The result was a 13-2 win for Class 2A No. 7 Woodward-Granger, who had 21 hits to just seven for their opponent as a trio of Hawk hurlers kept the Huskies offense in check.

Matt Buch went 3-2/3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks to record the win. Cole Theisen tossed 2-1/3 innings of relief, with Reese Jamison throwing one frame. Theisen and Jamison each allowed one hit and joined Buch in recording one strikeout apiece.

The Hawks (23-0) jumped on Huskies starter Cole Witt for four runs in the first inning and held a 6-2 lead after five frames. Two runs in the top of the sixth moved the score to 8-2, with five tallies in the seventh creating the final score.

Matt Rhodes was 3-for-5 with two doubles, three runs scored and five RBIs for the guests, with Theisen 4-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs while Buch drove in two runs while batting 3-for-3.

Brady Aunspach was 3-for-4 with three runs scored from his lead-off spot in the lineup, wth Spencer Hanson scoring three times and driving in a run with a single and a double while Marcus McConahay and Joe Rhodes each had a pair of hits.

Witt yielded six runs (four earned) on 11 hits and a walk in 5-2/3 innings. Easton Holder allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks in one inning of work, with Connor VanPelt touched for two runs on three hits while recording one out. Witt finished with six strikeouts, Holder with two and VanPelt with one.

Brady Porter had a single and a triple for Winterset (9-10), with Tolik Bartz adding two singles.

W-G will host Creston at 1 p.m. today before visiting Madrid Monday and hosting Greene County Tuesday.
