W-G track teams both place fifth at Carroll Invite

CARROLL — Eight-three points for the boys and 66 from the girls placed each Woodward-Granger track team in fifth place at Tuesday’s Carroll Invitational, an event postponed from Monday.

Carroll and IKM-Manning tied for first place with 126 points apiece in the boys meet, with Perry and MVAO tying for third at 89. W-G had 83 points and Greene County 68. The Carroll girls easily won their side with 152 points. IKM-M was second at 111, with Greene County (100), MVAO (86), W-G (66) and Perry (48) following.

The Hawk boys scored well in the field events, with Brendan Bird winning the discus at 137 feet while Bryce Achenbach landed second in the long jump at 18 feet, 1-1/2 inches. Cale Pritchett cleared 5’6 for fourth in the high jump, with Brody Easter sixth in the shot put with a shove of 38’4-1/2.

Jack Grell was second, in 5 minutes, 16.9 seconds, in the 1600, with Alex Bice third in 5:20.96. Bice was fourth in the 3200 in 12;:03.95, with Bird fifth in the 100 in 12.42 seconds and Achenbach second in the 400 in 57.29 clicks while Payton Tague crossed third in the 400 low hurdles in 1:04.52.

Placing third was the 4×100 (48.34), 4×400 (3:48.42) and 4×800 (9:05.77) relays. Tague, Bird, Josh Saak and Jay Dohrenkamp ran the 4×1, Saak, Pritchett, Achenbach and Ian Thompson the 4×4 and Achenbach, Grell, Thompson and Marcus McConahay the 4×8.

The 4×200 of Cody Lisle, Saak, Pritchett and Thompson were fourth in 1:42.01 whiel Bird, Tague, Thompson and Pritchett finished fifth in the sprint medley in 1:45.35.

Quinn Kaufman (15.56), Anna Tague (29.49) and Emma Drake (1:06.25) each placed fourth in the 100, 200 and 400 races, respectively, for the W-G girls, with Riley Jamison (5:38.39) second and Regan Kaufman (6:27.19) sixth in the 1500 run.

Kaitlyn Bandstra, Maddie Danti, Chloe David and Natalie Helbling were third in the shuttle hurdle (1:25.51), with Bandstra, Tague, Drake and Mae Anderson third in the sprint medley (2:02.73) while Bandstra, Helbling, Regan Kaufman and Alyssa Bice were fifth in the distance medley (5:19.17).

Drake, Helbling, Tague and Kaitlyn Peters crossed third, in 11:18.64, in the 4×800, with David, Anderson, Bice and Quinn Kaufman fourth, in 2:09.09, in the 4×200. Drake, Peters, Anderson and Tague were fifth in the 4×400 in 4:36.67, with the 4×100 (names n/a) fifth in 60.01 seconds.

David was third in the 400 low hurdles in 1:21.25, with Helbling clearing the bar at 4’4 for fourth in the high jump. Emma Buckman’s spin of 91’8 placed fourth in the discus, with Kaitlyn Scharlau fifth (29’4-1/2) and Buckman sixth (29’2) in the shot put.

The Hawks girls are at Ogden today, with both W-G squad visiting the Southeast Valley Invite Tuesday.
