Woodward-Granger boys golf ends year with third place finish at sectionals

MENLO — The Panorama boys dominated play at a Class 2A Sectional Tournament Friday and earned the right to advance, along with runner-up Des Moines Christian, to District play. Woodward-Granger played well, but could not keep pace and finished third in the eight-team field.

Reid Cobb fired an impressive 32-34–66 to finish at six-under par, with Will Babcoack one-under with a 36-35–71 and George Appleseth was one-over at 36-37–73 as Panorama had the three lowest scorers en route to a 285. Max Monthei was fifth overall for the Panthers with a 37-38–75.

Des Moines Christian had a 319 for second place, with W-G shooting a 336. North Polk and Van Meter tied for fouth at 357, with East Union (364) sixth, West Central Valley (404) seventh and Clarke (456) eighth.

Austin Ober’s 44-38–82 led W-G, with Jordan Pierce adding a 39-44–83, Brady Aunspach a 45-39–84 and Nick Brummond a 44-43–87. Lane Kooiker (46-45–91) and Alex Bodermann (50-51–101) also made the circuit for the Hawks, but did not have their scores used for the team total.
