
Rescheduled from Thursday, the annual Leon Fox Invitational was held Tuesday at the Perry Golf and Country Club.
The cross country meet had 81 boys and 56 girls compete at the 5K varsity level, with 89 boys and 65 girls running in the two-mile middle school event.
Winterset won the boys race with 23 points. The ADM junior varsity was second with 52 points, with Boone (71), Perry (97) and Des Moines North (139) following. ADM (31), Winterset (33), Boone (86), Perry (103) and Des Moines North (129) posted scores in the girls varsity set.
Winterset swept the top three boys individual places, with Mason Beck first in 17 minutes, 10 seconds and Blake Freese second in 17:48 while Sam Hemsley was third in 17:51.
Perry’s Fithawi Andemichael was close behind, crossing fourth in 17:57. Gannon Meis was 18th in 19:26 and Yonas Andemichael 20th in 19:33, with Jonathan Chavez (27th, 20:29) and Owen Myers (21:59) also scoring while Aiden Carlson (29th, 22:01) and Mason Hoffman (22:06) ran varsity as well.
Also competing for the Bluejays were Renzo Saenz (22:52), Jose Chavez (23:38), Kyle Hernandez (23:56), Bryce Anliker (24:10), Kevin Barrientos (25:59), Issac Ballard (27:49) and Jackson Loyd (29:23).
Geneva Timmerman of ADM was the girls titleist in 19:22, with Winterset’s Darci Wiseman (21:00) and Dyllan Kaufman (21:14) placing second and third, respectively.
Taryn Nehring was ninth in 22:33 to pace the Perry girls, with Mercedes Ponce (25:34), Mylah Meis (26:19), Amy Diaz (27:07) and Denise Rivera (28:40) were 21-22-23-28 to account for the Perry scoring. Laurine Calamy (29th, 30:34) and Aliya Ikhsanova (31st, 31:49) also competed for the Jayette varsity.
Dowling Catholic (24), ADM (37), Winterset (106), Roland-Story (117), Boone (118) and Perry (149) was the order of finish in the boys middle school event.
Thad Stuart crossed in 11:01 to finish ninth for Perry. Gavin Leslie was 23rd in 12:34 with Kyeo Augustine 38th in 16:10 while Diego Diaz-Cardenas (17:08) was 39th and Angel Rodriguez-Molina (18:13) for the Jays.
Finishing eighth in the girls set was Lily Myers, who posted a time of 13:44. Perry teammates Rosa Pineda (27th, 18:17), Fiorella Oliver (28th, 19:14), Amelie Canales (30th, 20:13) and Aleah Karolus (31st, 20:18) also scored points. Running for the hosts as well were Iliana Ledesma (32nd, 20:31) and Sofia Saenz (33rd, 21:08).
